In the summer of 1942, the life of little Siny is changed forever. Her parents, Herman and Ali, must make choices that no one should ever have to make. The war weighs heavily on their young family. When it becomes too dangerous, they place their daughter in a home, not knowing what the future will bring.

Siny is only one year old when she ends up with Hans and Nel, a GP and his wife in De Bilt. They hesitated for a moment, but soon it feels as if Siny is their own daughter. While she grows up in a seemingly quiet village, her father lives somewhere in the north under a false name and joins the resistance. Her mother goes into hiding, far away from them.

Between fear and hope, each of them tries to survive, not knowing if they will ever see each other again. Only after the liberation does it become clear what has been lost and what has been saved with great courage.

A Broken Home tells not only the story of a child growing up in wartime, but also of the strength of people who dared to help, and of the wounds that are still felt generations later.
